 In 1956 the first statewide ecumenical body was 
 formed as the Alaska Association of Churches. 
 The organization grew in membership and energy, 
 becoming in 1959 the Alaska Council of   Churches. 

The Council was active until 1972, when it was 
 restructure as the Alaska Christian Conference.

 Since that time, the Conference has grown from six members communion to twelve.  It continues 
to be the vital ecumenical body in Alaska
